It only awards you the achievement if you are ranked #1 when the server resets. Not sure if that is how it is supposed to work or if it's a bug though.

Yup has happened to me several times also, your glad hits number one in his bracket, and then before the server reset you get attacked by someone and get bumped up into the next bracket... it sucks.
