No, it does not. This is because the glad can still be brought back with a ton of trophies. So the name can't become free because it's still in use.

Jerimy you are confusing retirement with selling a gladiator.
In the case of a gladiator getting retired the name doesn't free up, if it gets sold however you cna re-use the name
