Picking up his/her weapon is definatly a big thing that seems like luck plays a huge factor in.
One of my glads picks up her weapon almost immediatly after dropping it, very rarely picking up a random forgotten weapon.
Then I have a glad who seems fit to fight with his fists for a full two rounds and then proceeds to pick up some random weapon he has no skill with.
I assume this is due to a difference in the luck stat since there's no huge difference in visible stats between the two. Got to say it can make a world of difference when fighting someone with signature move disarm.

Intelligence also has something to do with picking up your own weapon, as well as luck.
