When a glad dies does the stat penalty ever go away or is it permenent and you have to get an upgraded undertaker to avoid it?

Should last 24 hours (so 2 arena fights with the penalty) or so it seemed the times i have died, the first undertaker upgrade takes it from 20% to 10% penalty, and then the 2nd one makes it go to 0%.
