Questions about the gauntlet

hiya peeps,
Ca i ask 2 questions regarding the gauntlet

1. Does it matter if i do not choose an ally to fight in the gauntlet? As n=in will it cause me to get no squids?
2. For the deal 'Let's Make A Deal! Jimmy awards the best quality item on each gem round', do i only need to pay one off 40 trophies to get the best quality item forever? or it only last 1 round?

#1: It doesn't matter wether you choose one or not, however it does get harder to clear the gauntlet without one

#2: It is neither of those two, Jimmy is a benevolent crook but he's not stupid, his deals last for the full duration of your gauntlet run so untill it ends the deal stands. If you forfeit or time runs out however so does the deal you've made with uncle Jimmy.
