Is the bonus health from Never Say Die applied as the hit connects or is it applied after the hit happens?

Never Say Die may trigger following an attack attempt of the opponent which could be successful, parried, deflected or whatever. It is not a must to receive damage. In case you get successfully hit, the bonus health is applied before the damage.
