jimmys giving my fighter a weapon he is not skilled in to fight in the pit

my fighter Goblin Slave keeps getting a axe/blunt weapon to fight in the pit with. he has a blade equiped and is skilled in only blades at the moment.

does jimmy have it out for my fighter?

Is it that he has blade equipped only in off hand? If main hand is empty it will have an axe/mace by default, in the pits.

Is this the first time this has happened or does it always happen?
