The BG VI have been full of surprises and very instructive, the new rythm of the game having opened widely the competition...
Here's a few thoughts I have about the final results, feel free to comment :
1. Game balance between specialties seems ok
We have 4 wars, 3 theatrics and 3 rages in the top 10. No rage finished on the podium but Incredulous and Belgarad owned the first place for a good part of the competition and Belgarad would probably have won it without his 3 defeats against Siam.
2. Rages are not overpowered
Many including me expected a victory from a DW rage after the last changes but none of them even finished on the podium... The result may have been different if Delta and Summit had entered the games, but other specialties seems to have find ways to beat ragers when needed.
3. Dunders and Trugs rules, Humans need more love !
The first 2 places go to Dunders, followed by 4 trugs when the first human (Azmael) finished only 10th... A pathetic +20 in offensive power doesn't weight much against the benefits the other races have...
4. A new generation took the power
None of the gladiators who finished in the top 5 of those BG VI was in the top 5 of BG V. Even more strikingly, none of the previous BG winners even finished in the top 10 (Ormgar 11th, Foxtrot 14th and Laharl 24th)
5. The Imperium can be defeated !
Only one gladiator of the Imperium (Toddler) finished in the top 7. The format of the BG don't allow the Imperium to use challenges to get rid of dangerous adversaries, like they do in Primus. In the BG their impressive number of elite gladiators don't help them as there is no team play.
