Socky ran out of stamina, but why did Gum E fall to the ground?

It means that Socky was about to strike Gum E before the end of the round and the hit would have brought Gum E to 0 hp, so he gave up.

Yep, as the round had only just started there is a good chance that Socky was just about to swing another hit so Gum E begged for mercy rather than risk death.
